Get professional support

Talking to someone is not a failure to cope. It’s what coping looks like.

If you’re in immediate danger, call 999 in the UK, or your local emergency number, or go to your nearest emergency department.

Samaritans are free to call on 116 123, any hour of any day, and you can talk about anything. If calling feels like too much, you can email jo@samaritans.org.

Shout is a free, confidential text service. Text SHOUT to 85258, any time, and someone will text back.

NHS 111 can connect you to urgent mental health support. Call 111 and choose the mental health option, or visit 111.nhs.uk.

Outside the UK, findahelpline.com lists free, confidential helplines in most countries, and befrienders.org does the same worldwide.

And if it’s not a crisis but it’s not nothing either, your GP is an option, and so is an honest conversation with someone you trust.

This site can’t provide crisis support. Nothing you write here is seen by anyone.
